YSL Icons of Fashion Design
Yves Saint Laurent was one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th Century. His clothes can now be understood, in this re-issued tome from 1988, to represent the zeitgeist of each decade that it archives. Able to adapt his style to accommodate the changes in fashion in the 20th century, he approached clothing from a new and different perspective by wanting women to look comfortable yet elegant at the same time. He is remembered for his groundbreaking use of non-European cultural references, and non-white models. This stunning, beautifully bound and printed volume contains a compelling assemblage of fashion photography from some of the world's leading fashion photographers. It illustrates the arc of five decades of YSL couture and RTW worn by fashion icons of the '60s,'70s, and '80s: Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, Mounia, and Veruschka. With a lively introduction by Marguerite Duras, (1914-1996), a French novelist, playwright, screenwriter, essayist, experimental filmmaker and outrageous social commentator.
